Then spake Elisha unto the woman, whose son he had restored to life, saying, Arise, and go thou and thine household, and sojourn wheresoever thou canst sojourn: for the Lord hath called for a famine; and it shall also come upon the land seven years. 2 And the woman arose, and did after the saying of the man of God: and she went with her household, and sojourned in the land of the Philistines seven years. 3 And it came…

2 Kings 6:8-23, Similar to Today, Syria and Israel in Conflict

Then the king of Syria warred against Israel, and took counsel with his servants, saying, In such and such a place shall be my camp. 9 And the man of God sent unto the king of Israel, saying, Beware that thou pass not such a place; for thither the Syrians are come down. 10 And the king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God told him and warned him of, and saved himself there, not once…

2 Kings 5:18-27, Covetousness

In this thing the Lord pardon thy servant, that when my master goeth into the house of Rimmon to worship there, and he leaneth on my hand, and I bow myself in the house of Rimmon: when I bow down myself in the house of Rimmon, the Lord pardon thy servant in this thing. 19 And he said unto him, Go in peace. So he departed from him a little way. 20 But Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man…

The Birth of Christ, Part 1 of 4

This morning, as I mentioned, we’re going to be starting a four-week series dealing with the birth of Christ. And I want to begin by looking at Luke’s gospel in chapter 1. So if you have your Bibles, will turn with me to Luke chapter 1. I want to begin reading at verse 5, and we’re going to go through verse 25. There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judah, a certain priest named Zacharias. And his…

2 Kings 4:38-44, The Ministry and Life of Elisha

And Elisha came again to Gilgal: and there was a dearth in the land; and the sons of the prophets were sitting before him: and he said unto his servant, Set on the great pot, and seethe pottage for the sons of the prophets. 39 And one went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine, and gathered thereof wild gourds his lap full, and came and shred them into the pot of pottage: for they…

1 Timothy 6:6-16, Christians Should be Thankful

Paul’s Pen 6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. 9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. 10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some…

2 Kings 2:12-25; 4:1-37, Elisha

We’ve been looking at the various kings, both of Israel and Judah, and the nation of Israel, as we’ve been studying, has been very turned against the Lord and following false gods ever since the two portions of Israel separated, and you have the kingdom of Judah, the southern kingdom, and the kingdom of Israel, the northern kingdom, ten tribes in the north, two in the south. And ever since Jeroboam established the kingdom and wanted to make sure that…

2 Chronicles 24:15-27, The Importance of Constantly Seeking God’s advice, Not Man’s

Joash had become a king of Judah, the southern kingdom. His grandmother was the daughter of Ahab and Jezebel of the northern kingdom. His grandfather died before he was even born. He was just a baby when his father died and his grandmother killed all of his brothers and all of the other heirs to the throne. Joash was hidden by his aunt, the daughter of his grandmother, and her husband who was Jehoiada the high priest. And they were…

1 Timothy 4:1-16, A bit of background as to where Paul was at when he wrote the letter to the Ephesians

One of the things that we often need to do is remember to count our blessings and be thankful and grateful for all that God has done for us. The last number of years, a lot of people can be very discouraged, and yet we as Christians are never to be discouraged. The Apostle Paul, and this morning I would want to take a look at some verses out of 1 Timothy to build on what we were looking at…
