EXODUS –LESSON 49

LEARN: Psalm 29:1- 2

Give unto the Lord, O ye mighty,
give unto the Lord glory and strength.
Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name;
worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.

Read Exodus 28:1-43

1.Who chose who would be the priests to minister among the children of Israel? v 1

2. Name those chosen to be the priests of the LORD? v 1

3. What was the relationship between Moses the leader of the children of Israel and the man chosen by God to hold the priest’s office? v 1

4. What were two ways in which Aaron, the priest of the LORD was to be set apart in the eyes of the people?   v 2

5. Read the following Scripture and comment concerning v 2 and what relationship it has as to how man is required worship God. Psalm 29:2; I Chronicles 16:29

6. Was Moses instructed to make the garments for the priesthood personally, as verse 2 seems to indicate? Explain.  v 3

7. What lesson can be learned regarding how we study Scripture from this possibility of misunderstanding that could occur when reading Scripture such as verse 2 by itself?

8. Using verses 5 and 6, list the five materials given here to be used in the making of the priestly garments.

Recalling what we have learned in Exodus 26:1-6, 31-37, in what way are these materials like those used in making the Tabernacle?

Because of the materials that were used for both the Tabernacle itself and for the priests’ garments, what would be seen?

NOTE: The Israelites had probably brought with them the Egyptian looms with which they were familiar. These were hand looms and easily transported. PULPIT COMMENTARY BOOK OF EXODUS p 280

9. From verses 4 and 42, list the 7 different pieces of Aaron’s prescribed attire.

10. Using vv 4-28, 31-34 make a drawing and label and color of the garment to be made for Aaron.

11. Using the verses of question 10, note any specific details concerning Aaron’s garment that you find especially interesting and why. 

12. Using verses 9-11, explain the use of stones in the High Priest’s garment.

13. What was the purpose of these two stones which were placed on the shoulders of the High Priest?   v 12

14. In what other way were stones used in the garment of the High Priest? vv 15- 21

15. Why was breastplate which was ornamented with the gem stones called the “breastplate of judgment”?  v 30
