EXODUS –LESSON 44

LEARN: II Corinthians 9:6, 7

But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

Read: Exodus 25:23-30; Leviticus 24:1-9

1.Verses 23-30 of Exodus 25 are the instructions for the 2nd piece of furniture that was to be made for the tabernacle. Using the description given, make a sketch to help you understand what this article looked like and how it was to be used.

2. What utensils were made to be placed on the table? v 29

NOTE: The spoons spoken of in verse 29 are not the same as the spoons that we use today. Instead they were bowl like, about the size of a man’s hand, to which wooden handles could be attached. 

3. What other objects were to be placed on the table?  v 30

4. Give a description of the cakes or bread that were to be placed on the Table?  Leviticus 24:5, 6

5. What is the significance of having 12 cakes of bread on the Table?  Leviticus 24:8

6. Why were there also bowls and spoons and dishes with covers on the Table of Shewbread?  Leviticus 24:7; 23:13 

7. The gold used to make the Table and its instruments must be ____________. Exodus 25:24 The flour used to make the bread must be_____________. 8. What is the significance of the careful guarding of the integrity of all that pertained to the table?  Leviticus 24:9

NOTE: The “dishes” were probably the vessels in which the bread was brought to the table. The covered “spoons” were incense cups in which the incense that was offered with the loaves was kept and carried. The “bowls with covers” were vessels required for the drink offerings of wine.

9. The Ark of the Covenant was to be placed in the Holy of Holies, behind the veil. Where, in the tabernacle, was the table to be located? Leviticus 24:3; Exodus 40: 22-24       

10. The Ark was within the veil. It could be approached and seen only by the High Priest, one time a year, on the Day of Atonement. Access to the Table of Shewbread being outside the veil, was not as limited. Who was able to approach the Table of Shewbread, and how often?  Leviticus 2:1, 2

15. What was the occasion when the Shewbread was not eaten by the priests as God had commanded?  I Samuel 21:1-6

16. What did Jesus teach about this incident of David and the Shewbread?  Mark 2:23-28

17. The Israelites were reminded of the physical nourishment that God continually provided for them by the Shewbread. That bread also points to the need for Spiritual nourishment. How is this need for spiritual nourishment taught by Jesus?                                John 6:33-35?
