EXODUS –LESSON 42

LEARN: I Peter 1:19-21

but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: 20 who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, 21 who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

Read: Exodus 24:1-18

1.According to verse 1, who was invited to come and have a special meeting with the LORD?

2. Who were Nadab and Abihu?  Exodus 6:23

3. How was Moses separated from this special group of men? v 2

4. Before Moses and the selected men went up to meet with the LORD, what did Moses do? v 3a

5. What was the people’s response to all the words to the LORD that Moses told them? v 3b

6. What were the words that Moses gave to the people?  Exodus 20:22-26; 21:1-36; 22:1-31; 23:1-33  You can give a brief synopsis or overview of Moses’ words.

7. How can we be assured that Moses remembered and spoke ALL the words to the people that God had given him on the mount? II Peter 1:20, 21; John 14:26

8. Moses spoke God’s words to the people. What else did he do to ensure that they would remember what God had told them? v 4a

9. What formal process did Moses carry out in order to solemnly enforce the serious nature of the oath that the people had made to the LORD in which they said that they agreed to keep God’s commands?

10. The people were clearly given the commands of the LORD, in each instance they clearly and loudly proclaimed their commitment to obey what God had said. How much of God’s command were they willing to obey? vv 3, 7

11. After the ratification of the covenant: the people agreeing to do all that the LORD commanded them to do, it was time for those who had been invited to meet with God. What did they see on this occasion?  vv 9, 10

12. Using John 1:18 and I Timothy 6:16 as your sources explain who these men saw.

13. Why were men who were unholy able to safely feast in the presence of The Holy God? v 11

14. Record other Scriptures that describe what men saw when they were in the presence of God.

15. The men whom God had designated had gone up onto the mount where the LORD revealed himself to them in dazzling beauty, but they did not ascend to the top of the mount. What was God’s special call to Moses? v 12a< For what purpose? v 12b

16. What was unique about the commandments that the LORD gave Moses on the mount?  v 12c ; Exodus 31:18

17. What does this special separation from the other law and manner and material indicate about these commands? 

18. Did Moses go up into the mount of God alone? v 13

20. What were the 3 instructions that Moses gave to the elders of Israel as he left them to go up into the mount to meet with God?  v 14

22. Moses and Joshua went up unto the cloud covered mount. How long did Moses wait for the specific call to actually come into the midst of the cloud?  v 16

23. How long was Moses alone with God in the midst of the cloud? v 18

24. What did Moses not need during that time alone with God on the mount? Deuteronomy 9:9

25. It was during this time on the mount that the LORD gave Moses the instructions for the construction of the Tabernacle. For this instruction Moses needed to be completely separated from every distraction. What 2 things do we see from this account are an important part of leaving the distraction around us as we meet with God?
