Hebrews Lesson 4

Learn: Hebrews 2:1-3

Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.

For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward; How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;

1. What is the word “therefore “ as used in verse 1 referring to?

2. What is it that is so very important for us to do? v 1a      

3. Explain what it means to give “earnest heed” to something. How does the word “more” proceeding the phrase “earnest heed” affect the command?

4. Are the things that we have “heard” only those things which preceded in chapter 1 or does the “things we have heard” include other important things?

Explain your answer using the following Scriptures:

I John 1:1-3

Ephesians 2:8, 9

Hebrews 10:17;

I Thessalonians 2:13

Philippians 4:8, 9  

Colossians 1:23 

Titus 2:11-13

II Timothy 2:2 5.

Considering that the volume of “the things that we have heard” to which “we are to take more earnest heed” is quite extensive, how are we to accomplish this great task?  

6. At what point can this this task be completed?

7. What is the certain outcome in the lives of anyone who does not heed the warning and therefore continue always to “take earnest heed to the things that we have heard”?  v 1b

8. What is that “word which was spoken by angels” referring to?    Acts 7:37. 38, 53; Galatians 3:19

9. How does the Lord regard and enforce the “word” that was given to Moses? v 2 

10. If then, the punishment for violation of God’s law is so strictly enforced, what is the warning that is given to us and all mankind? v 3a

11. What does the strict enforcement of God’s law prove to us about God and why is it necessary? Deuteronomy 32:3, 4; Acts 10:34; Hebrews 10:28 and Hebrews 10:35

12. What is the only means of escaping God’s judgement for violating his law?  v 3b

13. What is the “great salvation”? Isaiah 53:5, 6; John 3:16

 

14. How was God’s only means of salvation from judgment that he offers us revealed to us? vv3c

 

15. How can we be assured that what the Lord spoke is the true means of salvation?

Isaiah 46:10, 11 16. According to verse 5, who do not have the power to subject all the world to come to themselves?

17. What is that “world to come” of which the author of Hebrews is speaking? 

Revelation 5:10; Revelation3:21; Revelation 20:4; Daniel 7:22; I Corinthians 6:2

18. We see then that believing men will rule over the angels, along with our Savior Jesus during his 1,000 year reign upon the earth.  Along with ruling over men in the Millennium, what else will the redeemed rule over?    vv 7-8a   See also Genesis 1:28.20. 

19. When we consider these things, what should our attitude be?  v 6;  Psalm 8:1-9, especially verses 1 and 9.   20. What truth from this section of study in Hebrews is new to you, or especially helpful or encouraging at this time?
