Hebrews Lesson 13

Learn: Ephesians 4:13-15

13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: 14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; 15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

Read: Hebrews 6:1-10

  1. Using verses 1, 2 –  #1-  list the 3 principles of the doctrines of Christ given and #2 – Under each doctrine give a Scripture or two that explains the meaning of that doctrine.
  2. Verse 1 states that we are to “leave the principles of the doctrine of Christ.” Does that mean that those doctrines are not essential or that we are to forget those doctrines?                                 Explain your answer. The answer is a word found in verse one.
  3. The word “Therefore”, points to a reason as to why we are to “leave” the principles. It points us back to chapter 5, verses 11-14. What is the reason? 
  4. We see from verse one that the need is for believers “to go on to perfection.” Use the following verses to explain the meaning of the word perfection as used in this verse.                                               Colossians 1:28 Colossians 3:14 Ephesians 4:1
  5. Of what does verse 3 remind the Hebrews and us? 
  6. What kind of people are described in verses 4, 5?
  7. Though these people have had all that is needed for salvation offered to them, what does verse 6a indicate?
  8. If people refuse (fall away) from this means of salvation that is offered through the work of the Holy Spirit upon their hearts, how are they treating the Son of God who died for their sins? v 6c
  9. Is there any other way to gain eternal life in heaven for those who refuse what Jesus has done for them and which the Holy Spirit has showed to them? vv 6b, 4a
  10. Some churches teach that a person can be saved and then loose their salvation and then be resaved. Explain in your own words why can these verses not be teaching such a false doctrine?  vv 4-6
  11. Addressing the issue of being able to loose salvation once a person is truly saved, what does the Scripture teach?                                                                                                                                                                       John 5:24 John 6:37-39 Ephesians 2:8, 9 and Romans 11:29
  12. What is the actual problem of those who appear to have been saved and then turn away from the truth?  I John 2:18, 19; Acts 20:30
  13. According to verse 7 what does rain upon crops so that the ground will bring forth fruit acknowledge?
  14. The usage of “rain” in Deuteronomy 32:2 and Isaiah 55:10-11 is the same as used in Hebrews 6: 7. What does “rain” as used here symbolize?
  15. Read the parable of the sower in Matthew 13:3-23, especially note verse 20-22, how does this relate to Hebrews 6:4-6?
  16. What does Matthew 13:14, 15 tell us in explaining why people don’t accept what the Holy Spirit teaches concerning Christ?
  17. What does Hebrews 6:8 say is the result of the ground that bears thorns and briers?
  18. Find and record other Scriptures that speak of the destination of the thorns or tares.
  19. Though this passage can be difficult, what conclusion does one reach as to the meaning of Hebrews 6:4-8 when comparing Scripture with Scripture?
