10 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands:

11 They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment;

Study

1. In verse 10  we see that the word “Lord” is not all in capital letters, what does this indicate as to which person of the Triune God is being spoken of?  Use verse 8, 9 to justify your answer.

 

2. How does the use of the word “beginning” in relation to the heavens and the earth contradict the idea of evolution?  V 10

 

3. If the heavens and earth had a “beginning” what does that obviously indicate?

 

4. What work is credited to the Lord? v 10

 

5. What name is given to the Creator in Genesis 1:1?

 

6. List once again other Scripture that reaffirms that it is the Son who created the heavens and the earth.

 

7. What important truth (doctrine) about the heavens and the earth is revealed in verse 11a?

 

8. Record other Scripture that also speaks of what will happen to the heavens and the earth.

 

9. What reasons are given for the destruction of this present earth and heavens?

13. In verse 13 the author asks a question which is to point out the superiority of the Son over angels. What is another characteristic of the Son that makes him superior to the angels?

 

14. What is the purpose and position of the angels as seen in verse 14?

 

15. Using this chapter make a chart which contrasts the Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, to the angels.

 

16. The author of Hebrews under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit deems it extremely important to point out the superiority of Christ over the angels. Use the following Scripture to explain why it is that this teaching was and is so necessary?

18. What can you conclude is the antidote to anyone falling into the sin of worshipping angels?
